Generally - Is it worth updating the attendee list with something to denote who has booked accommodation?

This is a good idea. We should update the list if we know. We may have to PM each person on our list and inquire.

According to the stats Throttlemeister has not been on the forum since last August, is that right shiva?

Yes, he hasn't been around. But this was his impetus. So, his name is on the list the first spot out of acknowledgement. Not sure what's going on with him. he said he was going on a long vacation then drop back and lead this rally. :) regardless we are glad that Sundog has agreed to take this on.

I offer to program up and distribute the .gpx files need to load into the BMW Navigator IV or (another Garmin) so that we all know where we are going.

I will be using Autoroute 2013 - so if you have a tomtom, I could probably export them to something else that can be imported.

Please PM here and we can discuss the logisitcs of the route planning - ie scan it over.....

Hi Norsk :)

Would be good! gpx files run perfectly with all garmin's.

Also in my case I need to have the European cartography, for free if it's possible. I have all of South America now

Well Shiva and Sundog, I may be able to help with the restaurant. I'm sorry I was unable to help more but has been a very busy days, and just returned from Germany, but let me see what we can find

As an example I have 2 favorites, not the kind for tourist and one of them only opens friday through sunday. Very nice food at reasonable prices for Switzerland. These has a fixed menu, with an entrance (like a salad or antipasto and sometimes both!!), first (like pasta), second (where you can make your choice between poultry, horse steak, fish, frogs or shrimps, but always what is fresh), cheese and desert. The other one is an italian restaurant run by a Napolitan guy also with very nice cook and generous oversized portions. I have to check, but last time I went this december I paid like 35-40 Swiss Francs including wine and coffe per person, in one case with my family, and in the other with the company staff for our Christmas dinner.

Here everybody is a member of more than one association (maybe a ski club, a music band and a hunting group at the same time) and the restaurants are able to manage big groups because people loves to make their meetings monthly or whenever talking, drinking and eating. Everybody pays his part of the bill and all are very happy at the end :drunken:
These 2 restaurants are about 80 to 100 Km from Andermatt, and both are very near of Bellinzona City, wich is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The only thing every restaurant will require is to make a Reservation in advance, and normally for a group of more than 10 people they appreciate if you do it at least 1 to 2 weeks before. Dont forget this is Switzerland and they dont like "surprises" if that can compromise service and/or quality.

I believe if you tell me some ideas about what is needed/wanted I can do a better work.
I almost forgot, normally they didn't charge for the kids, so Bernardo will eat for free!!!

I want to clarify what I ment when said "not the type for tourist". These, and many restaurants, grottos, etc, have a very very nice cook, are nice and clean, and their clients love it, but are the real thing where the locals goes. They dont have the "postcard" look. Some, and maybe most, are run by the owner, wich is the chef and manager, and his wife/husband, sons and daughters helps with the service, cashier, and everything.

At the other side in every corner you can find a nice restaurant for tourists. You normally will eat fine, always fresh and with the proverbial swiss quality, but also much expensive, as Sundog says.

I dont have any problem eating in one kind or another, and I enjoy both styles, but I'm not the regular guy :P

Do you think? At least at half price!

Great comments about the places Ave, Usually I try to eat the same food and share the same table as the people of the places I visit, is a great experience, and often is cheaper :)

With so many people, you will never get a perfect response on where to go.

So i would suggest going with it.

In my experience food is fairly average in Switzerland so if you know anywhere that is not madly expensive and you feel is good, I would go with it.

We can all beat you up at the end...or run out and leave you to pay the bill.....only joking.

My preference on evening meals would be to eat around andermatt if possible, only so to enjoy a few drinks with the meal, I don't want to ride after any drinks but a good wine or beer with the inevitable 'chicken in a basket' makes it sooooo much better.. But not every day. Maybe some days plan to have a nice lunch at a destination and only a simple dinner in andermatt, and vice versa? Any thoughts?

Thanks Ave for agreeing to look into this.
I DO agree that we should find something in Andermatt, where most people will be staying. 100km is a hell of a ride after wine or beer, and in the dark. Those roads are a big no-no in the dark.

Hello,

I've covered the Swiss Alps area on my motorcycle (it was a Honda then), with Andermatt as my base, three years ago. I'm no expert in the area, but can find my way around. I volunteer if you still need a guide for the area.

I also suggest sticking with Andermatt regarding the meals. 100 km is a lot in the twisties.

Gents, the first and last dinners must be set in Andermatt. As that is the base for our event. Keep in mind that the last night can be just getting together before dinner time at a pub for drinks. I think this is even a better idea. Our last day is shortest and riders can easily meet up at 6PM somewhere in town for beer and drinks.

So, you only book 1 restaurant for the first dinner at around 7 or so. And select a fun pub for the farewell event at 6PM.

I toured the Andermatt area last summer, a round tour from the Albergo in Monte Spluga/Italy, just south of Splügenpass between Switzerland and Italy. I passed through Andermatt, stopped for some horn music in Gletsch and took some more pics just south of Gletsch. Great riding day!

I wish to go there once more - but this year I have other plans. Good luck with your meeting!

Hi All, I look forward to joining your tour with my Brother in law - Matt Huber, he mentioned it in an earlier post.

We are looking to rent motorcycles and safety equipment close to Andermatt but haven't had a reply from Stylmoto.ch or other companies yet.

Is anyone able to recommend a place that we can contact or who is already providing motorcycles to other users for this tour.

Many thanks,

Gary Sandler

Hi guys,

I haven't been there a lot those last months but everything's fine :D

Just to be sure, On Monday we'll meet in Andermatt at around 6 or 7PM, am i right?

My plan would be to leave home on sunday, stay a first night in Lucerne (Luzern) and spend monday visiting the transport museum there (http://www.verkehrshaus.ch/en) and the town. Then go for Andermatt to join you guys latter on...

I need to know before booking

By the way, i'm not sure i'll still have my K13S a that date... The new GS is a very tempting toy :drunken:

Anyway, i'm really excited to meet you all guys :D
